chairmanLetter From the Chairman

I want to personally invite you to join me at the first Progressive National Baptist Convention Michigan Faith-Based Conference co-hosted by National Ministries of American Baptist Churches USA. The conference will be in Detroit , Michigan at the COBO Hall Conference Center on Wednesday, May 27, 2009.

Our purpose for this conference is to promote Healing Communities. Healing Communities are communities of faith that go beyond traditional "prisoner reentry" and press for restoration, reconciliation and forgiveness. The Conference will provide a forum for education and resources where faith-based and community-based organizations can strengthen themselves and one another. We will work together to restore communities torn apart by the effects of loved one(s) incarcerated or returning home.

This conference will bring together local and state organizations to network with those who desire to be more equipped to the ministry of reentry. Representatives from the federal government, state of Michigan, Wayne County, and the city of Detroit will be present. It is my sincere hope that the resources and tools available at this conference will serve the places of faith that seek to become Stations of Hope for those returning from incarceration. Thank you in advance for the support you will give to this conference.

Yours for Kingdom Building,
Sincerely,

Reverend Dr. James Perkins
Chair, Commission on Social Justice and Prison Ministry
2nd Vice President, Progressive National Baptist Convention
